![]() ![]() It used to be slightly more tricky, you're talking about "jailbreaking", but even then it was just loading some software onto a programmable USB stick (costing about £5) and away you went. Installing CFW is as easy as installing OFW. There's a lot of people that have bought games (obviously there's a lot of people that haven't as well!) legitimately, but cannot play them as they are stuck on 3.55 and they don't want to update, as they would lose their ability to play homebrew, utilize the playing of backups, better media playback support, better user interface etc. People are annoyed now as more and more games are coming out which means you need the newer OFW to use them, and since the last CFW was at 3.55, this means people running CFW cannot play these newer games (there are some exceptions where the game devs have mistakenly released an update for a game which used < 3.56 code in it, which has then meant it can be used). You cannot go online if you have the actual game disc, well you can, but you would have to update (as above) which will mean you go back to "normal" official firmware (OFW). I think modded lobies etc might be down to hacked game saves or something else which has nothing to do with CFW. ![]() You cannot go online with a PS3 running CFW, it's impossible, it'll let you try and connect, but just like when you try and connect and you're on a lower official firmware, it'll prompt you to update before you can go online. ![]() Can't comment on the ruining of the online experience as I don't really play that many games.
